Nykredit Motivation Prize 2012
Powerhouse Company receives the Nykredit Motivation Prize 2012
COPENHAGEN (DK) - Each year the renowned Danish Nykredit Foundation awards three different architecture prizes. One of these prizes, the Nykredit Motivation Prize of over 13,000 euros, goes this year to Powerhouse Company, founded in 2005 by architects Nanne de Ru and Charles Bessard, and with offices in Rotterdam and Copenhagen, respectively. At the end of May 2012, the Danish Minister of Culture, Uffe Elbaek, awarded the prizes at a ceremony at the headquarters of Nykredit in Copenhagen. The Nykredit Architecture Prize 2012 went to the Danish architecture bureau COBE. The Special Merit Prize was won by architect Kent Martin Marcussen.
'The partnership is part of a group of new international and Danish firms that are beginning to make their presence known in the Danish architecture scene. The work of Powerhouse Company is internationally published and exhibited. This has worked as a stimulus to their impressive portfolio. Powerhouse Company is distinguished by their great attention to detail, wherein they keep in mind the coverage of all possible aspects of the construction project. Of all the innovative players in the field, these are absolutely the most talented architects,' said juror Kynne Mette Frandsen, director of the renowned Danish office of Henning Larsen Architects.
The funding behind this architecture prize is provided by the Nykredit Foundation. The prize is the largest of its kind in Scandinavia, and belongs to an authoritative list of prizes that also includes the Pritzker Architecture Prize and the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award.
