Festival, Bucharest
Event: Zeppelin Festival
BUCHAREST (RO) - Taking place from 02 November to 20 December 2011, the Zeppelin Festival includes a series of conferences and debates, two exhibitions and guided tours of industrial architecture. We are celebrating a successful year with Zeppelin Magazine; 100 issues with the same project and the same editorial team that you have known for more than ten years.
This year, at the forefront lays the issue of resources and economy. We are speaking about the architectural market, urban development in the near future and the current economy overtly. Who could do anything in Romania, and how? What do Romanian and foreign specialists in architecture, urbanism and economics say? Will there be further solutions and resources found for our cities?
The exhibition, "Urban Activism in Romania", is a study on independent initiatives, urban activation, entrepreneurship and devised projects. It provides examples of attitudes and positions. The exhibition highlights interventions in public spaces involving the local community, conversion and recovery of obsolete facilities or buildings, urban cultural re-activation by architectural and artistic means or urban design. Personal financing strategies are revealed as well as the way social integration is perceived, how to raise groups' awareness and create communities or formulas of partnership with the local government.
"City-Money-Architecture": conferences and debates on architecture involving international participation, as a political act within an economy based on cultural assets. This conference is co-organized along with DISC (Dutch Initiative for Sustainable Cities) and NAi (Netherlands Architecture Institute, Rotterdam).
The conference and the debate will focus on setting some principles and action strategies so as to find resources for the development of Romanian cities and architecture. The program is structured in such a way as to facilitate participants' interaction and build bridges of cooperation between various partners. Meanwhile, the conference focuses on improving the dialogue with the public administration and understanding a political agenda.
