RE-build the city

PARIS (FR) - The Pavillon de l'Arsenal in Paris has given the floor to a new generation of agencies and associations of European architects, born during the reign of globalization. Subtitled 'Re-cycle, Re-use, Re-invest, Re-build', the exhibition RE-architecture re-examines the architectural practice to reinvent the everyday. For these groups, it is appropriate to found the modern 21st century in a new global culture by 'changing the city to change lives'. In the exhibition called 'Platform collective exploration', these multidisciplinary teams cross critical positions and practices; a re-examination, according to Alexandre Labasse, new director of the Pavilion, of the development of our cities to offer unexpected perspectives.

The cast, three Parisian multidisciplinary collectives representing the capital: l'AAA Atelier of self-managed architecture, Coloco and the collective EXZYST, which is produced through encounters. From the latter, the architects Pierre Schneider and Francois Wunshel of 1024 Architecture produce their achievements in a more traditional, ephemeral process (see 'Boom Box' in A10 #43), using the collective actions of others and involving public participation. In this context, the London collective ASSEMBLED also stands out with its pilot project suggesting that Cinéroleum 4000 reuse abandoned gas stations in Britain.

The exhibition runs until 31 August 2012.
