BARCELONA (ES) - Torre Diagonal ZeroZero in Barcelona is the striking headquarters of the Spanish telco, Telefónica. The 110-metre-high tower, situated on Barcelona's main avenue, the Diagonal, catches the eye with the dynamic play of diagonals that criss-cross its facade. The overall effect is reminiscent of the polished facets of a diamond, an image that is strengthened by the brilliance of the glass.

The facade is a modular curtain wall made of white aluminium profiles and (transparent) glass with white ceramic paint serigraphy. The vertical pattern of the paint reinforces the slenderness of the building and, in combination with the internal column structure and the exterior structure, contributes to the diffusion of daylight and to glare control, generating a pleasant working environment with great views.

However, Estudi Massip-Bosch Arquitectes were keen to create a physical as well as a visual link with the surrounding area. The 40-metre-high atrium with lobby and exhibition space is publicly accessible and opens onto the Diagonal avenue, from where it is connected, via three intermediate floors, with the neighbouring Plaza Fórum. According to the architects, 'This direct physical and visual continuity with the city will enable the tower to be part of citizens' activities and will enable citizens to take part in and enjoy the building's activities.'
