AMSTERDAM (NL) - All over the Netherlands housing estates from the 1950s and '60s are undergoing drastic modification. So also the Westelijke Tuinsteden in Amsterdam, a garden suburb development based on the General Extension Plan of the great modern urban planner, Cor van Eesteren. Briefly put, the transformation comprises the demolition of 13,000 dwellings and the construction of 24,000 new ones. The latter include this colossal Parkrand apartment building in the Geuzenveld district, designed by MVRDV.
