SOFIA (BG) - When design commissions are scarce it does not seem so strange to consider the option of becoming your own commissioner. And this is what studio Funkt and Yoana Veleva did by purchasing, redesigning, refurbishing and subsequently operating the space of a former car salesroom in the centre of Sofia, under the name +tova.* The +tova space is located on one of the quieter city centre streets. It is a place for meetings, events and exhibitions, equipped with a kitchen, a bar and a shop. A true multifunctional space. A place for experiments and interaction.
Besides this, +tova was conceived as a place where ordinary poeple would be able to touch, use, buy and even make design objects. The team sells furniture made by Funkt, as well as by other young Bulgarian designers. It also organizes regular workshops on topics such as cooking, furniture making, and the making of badges, accessories, paper flowers, Christmas decorations, found-object jewellery and ceramics.
*+tova (+toba) is Bulgarian for 'besides this, furthermore, also, on top of that'
