CALAF (ES) - With their 'Lugar EspecĂfico' design, Rome-based 2A+P architettura won the Idensitat Calaf /Manresa 05 ideas competition in 2005. The organizers' goal is to stimulate creative practices that experiment with new forms of social engagement and participation, linking up with existing practices and dynamics in the chosen area.
2A+P architettura found a forgotten garden in the Spanish town of Calaf and, with the help of locals, transformed it into a new meeting point for the elderly. The project's main feature is a wall perforated by variously sized holes, the largest of which contains the round door, while the smaller ones cater to inquisitive passers-by. The circle theme was extended to the paving and to planters in the garden. They form a pattern around the existing plants and trees almost all of which were preserved by the architects, thus capturing the romantic atmosphere of the secret garden in their contemporary design.
