Mountain Lodge

PREIKESTOLEN (NO) - Hikers making for Preikestolen ('Pulpit Rock'), a cliff 604 metres above Lysefjorden, inevitably pass Preikestolen Mountain Lodge at the foot of the trail. Helen & Hard designed this fine showcase of local traditions, new prefabricated wood construction and ecological building standards. Form and volume are determined by raw nature: the building is bent around a rock outcrop, the roof profile resembles adjacent peaks and is 'folded' in such a way that wind and snow cannot get a grip on it. The supporting structure, which consists of 32 massive wooden 'ribs', lends the spaces – 24 guest rooms, restaurant, café and conference room – rhythm and scale. An arrival platform, terrace and spacious balcony provide spectacular views of Lysefjord 300 metres below.

Price per night per person: ranging from NOK 280 (approx. €35) for a dorm, up to NOK 1295 (approx. €160) for a 'Panorama Room'
